As a new year begins, the Toledo Lions Club decided it was time to modernize our website. The primary goals of this redesign were to improve usability on mobile devices, make it easier to find information on our website, and better promote our programs and initiatives.
DigitalOcean, a cloud hosting company, generously donated a $250/year grant for hosting services. While this do not cover the entire cost of hosting, it significantly reduces the costs. Thanks DigitalOcean!
The new site is built on WordPress, allowing members to maintain the site easily, with website software many people already understand how to use. It also provides many free plugins that extend the website’s capabilities. For example, the events on this site are powered by The Events Calendar, a powerful and easy to use and customize event management system. This software was also donated!
Toledo Lions Club also hopes to use the site for some e-commerce purposes, such as donations, event tickets and membership renewals. In time, it’s also hoped that we can provide vendor and car show registration for Cheese Days and other events, automating much of what is currently a manual and time consuming process!
Providing these tools allows Lions Club members to focus more time on service projects, and makes it much easier for our sponsors and supporters to complete tasks that typically depend on in-person visits or “snail mail”!
